I heard about the leak from Kotaku.com which stated the following details:

  • Story takes place in Japan (on a small island)
  • Is a prequel
  • New combat system
  • For PC, PS3, Xbox 360
  • Possibility of survival horror genre

However, the site Kotaku links, has been taken down. I did about 5 seconds of searching on Neogaf.com to find the pictures/concept art that was taken down, and I’m bringing them to you(to save you the 5 seconds).  Enjoy.

The Push towards Non-Linearity

July 10, 2009

When everyone left the E3 conference floor last month after watching and playing dozens of new sure-fire mega-blockbuster hits that had people literally hyperventilating with anticipation, when all that was over and everyone was back in their little offices hammering out what they remembered on their keyboards, remember what they were talking about?

Was it about the plethora of brown, dusty apocalyptic shooter-sequels to game that had been bought multiple times per second on their release dates? Was it about the various revivals of successful last-gen games that are by now beginning to transfer themselves into the “nostalgia” sectors of our memories? Was it the latest rendition in a series stretching back nearly 2 decades that we all can remember playing as children and not understanding (which was really fine because there wasn’t much to understand) but still loved playing anyway?

We Are Not Dead Yet

May 6, 2009

Again, I must  apologize for the lack of posting and the lack of future posting.

This week is the final week of classes, so Egmont and I have been really busy.

I’ve been basically using the Internet to feed my Reddit addiction, and to listen to Pandora(And of course to conduct research for my final projects). I bought Left 4 Dead last weekend when Steam have the 50% off sale, and haven’t played it much (Sadly). I like the multiplayer, but I absolutely hated the single player (so far). It’s not that the NPCs are bad or anything(The NPCs are actually pretty good I think), but when you are shooting at the Zombies,  it doesn’t really feel scary. Maybe I’m just running/gunning too much, but it felt like the Zombies were truly disposal and offer no real challenge to the player. It’s kind of silly to say this, but these ‘Zombies’ in the game were once ‘human’, I think they should offer more of a challenge. I don’t know, maybe I’m playing at too low of a difficulty (Normal). I’ll try playing a harder difficulty and see what I think. Just like any other Valve game, the multiplayer (and Co-OP) is wonderful.

Lastly, when I asked Pandora why they played ‘What it Takes’ by Aerosmith they said the follow:

Based on what you’ve told us so far, we’re playing this track because it features pop rock qualities, a subtle use of vocal harmony, acoustic rhythm piano, repetitive melodic phrasing and extensive vamping.

Why couldn’t they just say ‘You said you liked Aerosmith, so we are going to play Aerosmith songs? Sure the above explanation sounds much cooler but I would’ve accepted the later if it did appear.

So yeah, I look forward to the summer when I can write on a regular basis.

This is really a bizarre meme.

New Subreddit– Game Deals

April 19, 2009

What is a ‘Reddit’?

Reddit.com is a site in which people can submit stories, links, pictures, etc that are voted by the rest of the Reddit base. According to Wikipedia, it was started in 2005 by graduates of the University of Virginia. The links are voted up or down, and users are encouraged to comment to accumulate ‘karma’. Other users give comments karma when they feel it is a good comment. It’s similar to Digg, but different at the same time. With Reddit, users are more empowered as they can create their own Subreddit, their own Reddit category. This Subreddit can be modified to the administrator’s wants and needs,  as it allows custom CSS.

Ok…So What?

Today, I created a Subreddit titled ‘GameDeals‘. It’s exactly what it says, its a Reddit that collects links/ stories to video game, console, etc deals. I created it after someone suggested it in a link I submitted to the Gaming Reddit (The link was to woot which had refrub Xbox 360 Pro for >$150. They are sold out now). I need people to help submit links and participate in this new Subreddit to help it grow, and to help other Redditors receive good deals on their video game purchases.  So go now!

*Again, sorry for the lack of posts. I’m working on a guide right now and it’s long…very long(It’s 4 pages already on MS Word, and I have only written the introduction…!). I’m sure it’ll be worth the wait, so why don’t you subscribe?

Order and Chaos in 4chan

April 7, 2009

*I’m sorry for the lack of posting, being a college student can be rough. I’ve been thinking and fleshing out ideas for future posts and I hope to write them soon. Thank you, for your patience, loyalty and understanding.

There’s a discussion that has been generated by moot’s recent inclusion in Time’s Most Influential List, about 4chan. I’m sure most people who read this blog are aware of 4chan.org’s existence, and realize that the inclusion of moot has the potential to ruin or make 4chan into a completely new entity. If you know about 4chan, just scroll down until you see the picture of the kitten (after of course, you click the read more button).

This picture is actually related, for once.

On Killing Review

March 27, 2009

On Killing: The Psychological of Learning to Kill in War and Society, by Lt. Colonel Dave Grossman, is a book that is often cited by proponents of video game legislation, but is one that rarely discussed by video game sites themselves. As gamers, are we unfamiliar with the literature? Or do we just close our ears every time someone says something about censorship in the media? Recently, this issue of censorship and violent video games has become another hot button issue; in Germany, there was a tragic school shooting, and in Utah a bill was vetoed by the governor that would fine stores if they sold violent media to minors. I decided to read On Killing in hopes of becoming more intimate with the pro-censorship in violent media camp. Since I’m a lifelong gamer, I already know the common arguments of anti-censorship in violent media. We cannot expect to work towards a solution that will satisfy both camps without first understanding what these camps believe. So when I was reading On Killing, I was actually surprised with what I found…

More on the Wall-Street Mindset

March 25, 2009

This was originally going to be a sort of post-script to my previous post, but it got long enough and strayed far enough from the subject that I thought it deserved its own post.

Here is a funny little article wherein the commentator tries her hand at portraying those at AIG who did not have a hand in the current mess as martyrs by using the letter from Jake DeSantis, a top AIG exec, recently posted in the New York Times . These are the people getting the big bonuses, she says, not the villains who were the real architects of the collapse. She even invokes the mighty Hawthorne to title her piece (although for no apparent reason). She labels them as simply patriots, doing their duty to their country out of pure love; and yet, big bad Congress wants to take away any and all compensation that these selfless beings deserve.

The Cancer that is Killing America’s Economy

March 25, 2009

America has a malignant tumor eating it away from the inside; and instead of extracting it or treating it, we’re giving it all the delicious nutrients and mutating radiation it could ever hope for. It’s convinced us that we need it to survive in order for the country to survive; that, contrary to reality, it is what nourishes us, and… we, all of us, we’re falling for it. We have decided to help it, we are deciding to help it, and we will continue to decide to help it. Squabbling about the little things, the easily-comprehensible things, we will let it continue to consume us, like a parasite feeding off its host, until it’s too late. Because we only care about the little things; and we’re content to ignore the tumor as long as we’re trying to fix the symptoms.

A new class of people in America have found a way to exploit our innocent little republican democracy, to feed, like parasites, on its idealistic foundations and oblivious public, in order to line their pockets. How? Like street magicians; with smoke and mirrors, imaginary phantoms, mirages–-and, above all, with meaningless words, a convoluted language that only they can speak or understand. The Wall Street elite and their kin are the cancer that is killing America, and they’re desecrating the honest citizens right now.

An Open Letter to Germany

March 24, 2009

Dear Germany,

What happened in Winnenden on March 11th was a tragedy. 15 innocent lives were lost, as well as the shooter who apparently committed suicide. I am here to mourn with you, Germany, and I sincerely hope that nothing like this will ever happen again.

However…
